Fall for these 3 Great Thanksgiving Ideas

Autumn is my favorite season of the year. I love everything about the cooler weather, the warmer clothes and the colorful foliage. My most favorite of seasons ends with my most favorite of days — Thanksgiving!

One of the best parts about autumn is the food and snacks: soups, roasted veggies, meats and delicious warm breads. Plus, with football games galore and Thanksgiving on the horizon, there are many chances to eat with friends and family. These large gatherings always call for snacks, and lots of them!

And who doesn’t like a good Town House Original cracker topped with something delectable? Here are a few ideas to keep the masses happy, whether waiting for the big game or on the table before your Thanksgiving feast:

1. Say Cheese
Cheese is always a crowd pleaser, especially for the little ones. So make sure to lay out for everyone to enjoy. Get out small, fall-themed cookie cutters and cut your cheese slices into leaves or pumpkins.

Cream Cheese Veggie Dip

2. Spread the Love
Mix 8 ounces softened cream cheese with one package of dried Italian dressing mix. Spread your cream cheese on your crackers and top with cut veggies. This spread will keep them coming back for more, and they won’t even notice they’re eating vegetables!

3. Keep it Sweet

  • Keep packs of tasty cookies handy. Homemade cookies are great, but sometimes there just isn’t enough time. Give yourself a break and try Fudge Stripes Cookies. I find everyone loves them and it keeps me very popular!
  • Blend 8 ounces softened cream cheese with one small jar of marshmallow fluff and the juice of one orange. Serve with cut fruit and grapes. This is a sweet treat everyone will love.

Renée’s Fall Homecoming Checklist

Fall is upon us and during this busy season I look forward to my college homecoming and those warm gatherings of family and friends. Since the highlight of my autumn is homecoming weekend and the big football game, I always try to pack the essentials whenever we hit the road.

After my homecoming trip, it’s time to prepare for the grand gathering of family and friends — Thanksgiving! For this holiday, I keep a supply of Town House crackers and other snacks available while the meal is cooking to keep folks out of the kitchen.

5 ways to warm up your fall:

Apple Cider

1. Bring along a thermos of warm spiced cider for any trip.
Flavored with cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, brown sugar and orange slices, this delicious drink is perfect for fall! See my spiced cider recipe below.

2. Pack the Snacks for the road.
A few bottles of water, juice boxes and snacks go a long way in keeping peace in the car. My son’s favorites are Flipsides; he’s a big fan of these pretzel-tasting crackers. I also suggest individual packages of Cheez-It. It eliminates the fights over whose hogging the box.

3. Treat Yourself
Aside from the family, make sure you include a personal treat for yourself! (My personal favorite is Rice Krispies Treats and I don't really like to share!)

4. Make Aunt Charlotte's Famous Shrimp Mold
A lovely combination of cream cheese, shrimp, and spices placed in a fish mold and served on a platter. (Even though it’s the tastiest topping for Town House Original crackers, Aunt Charlotte just wouldn’t share the recipe!)

5. Break out the Clam Dip
I suggest trying out my easy recipe featuring canned, chopped clams, cream cheese and garlic. If you like seafood, be sure to add this to your menu. Get this quick and easy Clam Dip recipe below.
